Optical Beam Smoke detection systems comprise a Transmitter Unit which projects a modulated infra-red beam to a Receiver Unit. When smoke is present in the beam path the received signal is reduced by a level determined by the density of the smoke. When the threshold level is reached the fire alarm output is activated.
