What does Proteus Switchgear manufacture?
From its British manufacturing base, Proteus make all kinds of switchgear. From 230v consumer units, to 400v distribution boards and everything in between, the business encompasses domestic and commercial installations and bespoke units.
Bespoke designs to solve issues of space and access
Proteus can manufacture one offs or multiple units to solve all sorts of installation issues. For example, they have manufactured double banked CUs for use in limited horizontal space. They can make boards in separate parts for ease of access, and units that can be locked with keys for added security.

The benefits of using ready assembled and manufactured units
The biggest benefit to electricians and contractors using pre-assembled and manufactured distribution boards is to save time on different jobsites. Proteus can design and manufacture specific boards with the exact items required for each installation. And because they safety test all components, there’s added piece of mind there too.
Quality control and testing
On a factory visit, Darren and Dave witnessed some of the comprehensive testing that goes on. Devices are tested to BSI ISO 9001 and I design product design.
RCD and RCBO devices undergo 100% electronic testing to ensure each device trips within the required time parameters. Each device is given a unique code following testing for complete traceability.
As part of Proteus’ UK testing facility, they also carry out thermal testing of miniature circuit breakers and RCBO devices to ensure products meet the performance requirements of BS EN 60898.
