Gas Safety Week runs from 8th–14th September 2025, and we’re proud to support it once again. Backed by the Gas Safe Register, the campaign highlights the importance of staying safe when it comes to gas appliances at home and in the workplace.
At CEF, we’re not just here to supply products — we’re here to support you with knowledge that protects your customers, your business, and your community.
Why it matters
Poorly maintained or faulty gas appliances can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions, and carbon monoxide poisoning. All of these risks are real — and all of them are preventable.
Carbon monoxide (CO) is especially dangerous. You can’t see it, smell it or taste it — but it can be deadly.
Common symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include:
Headaches
Dizziness
Nausea
Breathlessness
Collapse
Unconsciousness
If anyone is experiencing these symptoms and they ease when away from the property, don’t ignore it — it could be a sign of CO poisoning.
Looking after your home, friends, and family
This year’s focus is simple: gas safety is everyone’s job. Whether you’re a homeowner, landlord, tradesperson or just someone looking out for others — you can help protect lives by sharing advice and staying informed.
Here’s how you — and your customers — can stay safe.
Look for the warning signs
Things like:
Yellow or orange flames instead of blue
Black marks or sooty stains around gas appliances
Condensation or pilot lights that won’t stay lit
All of these could indicate something’s not right — and it’s better to catch it early.
Fit a carbon monoxide alarm
This is one of the simplest, most effective ways to protect against CO poisoning.
✔ Look for models that are BS EN 50291 certified and show the British Standards Kitemark
✔ Make sure the alarm is tested regularly
✔ Place alarms in all key rooms, especially near boilers and gas hobs
