We’ve achieved Supply Chain Sustainability School Gold

CEF is now a Gold Member of the Supply Chain Sustainability School [SCSS], and it’s a big milestone in our Sustainability and Social Value journey. We’ve been working towards this for a while, so it’s an achievement we’re really proud of.

But this isn’t just about us. It’s about what this means for the customers and supplier partners we work with every day.

Because sustainability in the built environment only works when the whole supply chain moves forward together.

What the Supply Chain Sustainability School actually is

If you work in construction, housing, infrastructure, or FM, you’ve probably heard of the Supply Chain Sustainability School.

It launched back in 2012 as a free learning platform to help businesses build real sustainability skills, the practical kind that actually make a difference on projects and in supply chains.

Gold membership is the highest level you can reach. And you don’t just sign up or pay to get it.

You have to:

  • Reassess your sustainability maturity

  • Complete a significant amount of learning

  • And give back to the industry through case studies or events

It takes commitment, time and real engagement, which is exactly why reaching Gold means so much to us.

Why this matters beyond CEF

A lot of the organisations we work with are already members. Main contractors, infrastructure clients, homebuilders, FM providers, colleges and government bodies. In many cases, membership is now part of the expectation when bidding for work.

So, this isn’t just a badge for our website.

It means you’re working with a partner who is actively investing in sustainability knowledge and helping raise standards across the industry.

And we’re not keeping it to ourselves. A big focus for us now is encouraging more of our supplier partners to join and engage with the SCSS too. Because when the whole supply chain improves, projects run smoother and expectations become clearer for everyone.

How this fits our Sustainability and Social Value strategy

Our Sustainability and Social Value strategy exists to create opportunities and improve lives. Our goal is simple: be a leader in our sector and a force for good.

Everything we do sits under one of three strategic themes:

Protect the World  A huge part of our environmental impact sits in our value chain. The SCSS helps us build knowledge, strengthen responsible sourcing, and keep moving forward on our journey to net zero.

Nurture Our People  This achievement only happens when people get involved. Teams across CEF have spent time learning, sharing knowledge, and embedding sustainability into everyday decisions. It’s our culture in action.

Enhance Communities  The SCSS connects organisations who want to deliver better social value. Being part of that community helps us collaborate better and support the outcomes that matter across projects and communities.

Proud moment. Not the finish line

We’re proud of this milestone; it represents real progress and a lot of work across the business.

But we don’t see our SCSS Gold membership as a ‘job done’. We see it as momentum.

We’ll keep developing our Sustainability and Social Value strategy.  We’ll keep sharing knowledge across our supply chain.  And we’ll keep raising the bar.

Because a more sustainable future isn’t built by one company.  It’s built by all of us, together.
