Amendment 2 to the 18th Edition of the IET Wiring Regulations introduces a new requirement for Arc Fault Detection Devices (AFDDs), updates requirements for the fire safety design for buildings and includes a new chapter on Prosumer’s Low Voltage Electrical Installations.

Amendment 2 comes into effect immediately when published on 28th March 2022 and the previous version will be withdrawn six months later. The IET and BSI urge all electrical professionals to ensure they become familiar with the changes.
IET ESSENTIAL GUIDES
The IET Wiring Regulations is the national standard to which all domestic and industrial wiring must conform.
BS 7671:2018+A2:2022 incorporates changes from the first amendment. Additional changes within the second amendment include protection against thermal effects and fire caused by electrical equipment, protection against voltage disturbances and electromagnetic disturbances, and a new chapter on prosumer’s low-voltage electrical installations covering energy efficiency measures, the interface with the smart grid, the management of electricity consumption, the management of renewable sources of electricity, and energy storage.
